Keep Moving On

Keep Moving On ~ Swami Muktananda Muktan10

Swami Muktananda
Once there was a poor woodcutter. All day he would cut down tress and take the wood to the market to sell. He did not care about day or night or heat of cold; he just did his work every day. He worked so hard that he became exhausted. He was so emaciated that his bones and ribs showed. One day as he was wandering unhappily in the forest, he came across a great being. When the great being saw his predicament, he became concerned and said “Oson, don’t be so worreid. Just go Farther.” Then he left.

If a person is wise, then even one word is enough for him. But if a person lacks understanding, then even if he is taught the entire scriptures it is still not enough. When the great being said, “Just go farhter,” the woodutter said to himself, “All right, I will,” and he began to walk. He went farther and farther until he came to a forest filled with sandalwood trees. This sandlewood was worth much more money than the wood that the woodcutter had been taking to market. Now he began to sell sandalwood, and he made a lot of money, but he thought, “Babaji said to go farther.” So he walked farther and soon can=me across a copper mine. With the money he had made selling sandalwood, he hired some people and began to mine the copper and sell it. Now he was earning much more money, but he thought, “Baba said to go farther. I shold go farther.” And on he went. First he came across a mine of silver and later, a mine of gold. It was not long before he had become a millionaire, but again he thought, “Babaji told me to go farther. He did not tell me to stop.” So on he went until he came across a mine a precious jewels. Now he was a billionaire. People wondered how he had made so much money, but he onlu kept thinking, “He told me to go farther.” He did not stop. One day he met the dame sadhu. “O my son,” said the sadhu, “just as you went farther, now go deeper and deeper within.”

In the same way, you should keep going farther within until you reach the mine of jewels which is the inner Self. In the beginning, you may have a few kriyas or see a few sparkling lights, but this is just the forest of sandalwood tress. You may have some visions or experience a few moments of stillness, but this is just the copper mine. If you want to attain the effulgence of the inner Self, if you want to reach the goal of sadhana, you have to keep moving on.
