Reminder - Setting up Your Profile and Instant messaging

Do you have Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, Skype or AIM Instant Messenger Programs?

If you do and you would like to share them with other members to contact you - Sarveswara has given me the honour of providing other members with some instructions, in case you're not sure how to do it or didn't even know that you could.

The main reason I think this is a good idea, is that if we are online, but don't have the OM Chat Box open, we could invite each other to chat via these other programs.

It is still important for members to use the OM Chat Box - so other members or guests can see us online if they want to chat too.

If you don't have any messenger programs, but would like to get them - these are the web pages to get set up - and if you have any problems, I might be able to help (but I'm not a technical expert! hehe) - just message me on here and I'll do my best.

Yahoo - http://messenger.yahoo.com/newtoim.php
MSN - http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
ICQ - http://www.icq.com/download/
Skype - http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/ - can also be used as a phone over the internet, it has pretty cheap call rates!
AIM - http://dashboard.aim.com/aim


In my next post, I'll tell you how to set them up in this forum to allow other members access to add you to their own messenger programs.

OK, so you've got your messenger programs - one or more - when you add them in your profile here, some little icons will be put under your other info, so other members can click on them and add you to their programs

You don't need more than one of these programs - depends what other people have that you might want to chat to - me personally, I have yahoo, msn, icq and skype - you will see below all the little icons under my name:-

- these icons are gender, star sign and, I think, chinese birth sign? - and the other info below gets put in when you fill in other info on your profile - I might do another post on adding them if anyone is having trouble doing it.

I don't have AIM, so I'm not sure what the icon is for that, but you get the picture now...so....then...

Next, you need to actually add your info on your profile information here on the forum.

• Click on Profile up in the top right hand corner of your OM page - you will see the following tabs across the page - this is where you update all your info

• It automatically is open at the first tab - "Information" - which, conveniently, is where you fill in your messenger program info.
  
• There is a "Registration Information" box and a "Profile Information" box - you need to be in the latter
  
• Listed is the different messenger programs and all you need to do is put your usernames in the respective boxes
  
• All the different messengers have different username/ login formats. I'll give you mine for an example of what they should look like
  
• Yahoo - mixsy
  
• MSN - mixsy@yahoo.com (I use my yahoo address for MSN - but most people use their hotmail address for MSN - so most peoples would probably look like gtorganic@hotmail.com (which is my hotmail email address but i don't use it for MSN - sorry - it's a bit technical)
  
• Skype - mixsy77
  
• ICQ - 255818431
  

Oh, and if you haven't realised - this is also the box in your profile where you can put in your location details, birthday, website, gender & hobbies - so you can do this while you are there.

So there you go - hopefully that all makes sense to a beginner. But as I said before - any problems, give me a yell and I'll try and help
