The Little Book of WISDOM
His Holiness The Dalai Lama
Some timeless collections of advice, comments and sayings from one of the world’s most widely known and admired spiritual leaders.
If we can realise and meditate on ultimate truth, it will cleanse our impurities of mind and thus eradicate the sense of discrimination.
Ultimate Truth
In the search for ultimate truth, if it fails to dawn on us, it is we who have not found it. Ultimate Truth exists. If we think deeply and reflect carefully, we shall realise that we ourselves have our existence in ultimate truth.
Renunciation
It is said that we should renounce this life. That doesn’t mean that we should go hungry or not take care of this lifetime at all, but that we should reduce our attachment to affairs that are limited to this lifetime.
Inner Quiet
If, inside, you possess good qualities, such as compassion or spiritual forgiveness … then external factors will not affect the internal peace of the mind.
Spiritual Progress
We must take direct responsibility for our own spiritual lives and rely upon nobody and nothing …
If another being were able to save us, surely he would already have done so? It is time, therefore, that we help ourselves.
The Seeds of Spirituality
The essence of all spiritual life is your emotion, your attitude towards others. Once you have pure and sincere motivation, all the rest follows.
The Source of Spirituality
The dominant force of our mind is compassion and human affection. Therefore I call these human qualities spirituality.
Spirituality Outside of Religion
Without accepting a religion, but simply developing a realisation of the importance of compassion and love, and with more concern and respect for others, a kind of spiritual development is very possible for those persons who are outside of religion.
The Inner Journey
Purifying the mind is not easy. It takes a lot of time and hard work …
You need tremendous willpower and determination right from the start, accepting that there will be many obstacles, and resolving that despite them all you will continue until you have attained your goal.
Practise Love
To do so in all situations will take time, but you should not lose courage. If we wish happiness for mankind, love is the only way.
