Choices Choices
I am a “lump of intelligence” (a human being) interacting with other “lumps of intelligence” (other human beings). It seems to me that life happens and I then make choices whether I respond or react – but usually I’m fairly predictable. I do have free will and I can be happy or unhappy about anything that affects me – I can also see myself as personally responsible or as a victim. Whereas I might be considered an intelligent person, like most people I usually prefer not to see or admit when I’m being judgemental, resentful or revengeful – and I certainly don’t want to admit when I’m being controlling, rigid, stubborn or avoiding.
However, this life, I have been given, presents an ongoing opportunity to explore such patterns. It is my choice whether I see them, own up to them or by denying them, give them the power to control me for the rest of my life. There is a timeless statement. “The truth shall set you free!”
Of course I can blame others – that’s easy! And I can also surround myself with people who will support me in my delusions, and make no changes. However I have the choice of whether I go along with this pretence or be really honest with myself and others. My physical body is a great gauge – it so quickly indicates whether I’m in defence, attack, or simply wanting to hide or win over others.
This lump of intelligence (me) is not separate from all intelligence. In fact I’m a fully paid up member of one life and one human race and it is in choosing to know myself, step by step, that I can really know others.
The choices are endless – BUT the choice to look inward rather than outward is the choice that brings the most surprising discoveries and the most enduring rewards.
