Reading We just need to pay attention

Post by Machan Wed May 13, 2009 6:44 pm

Sometimes I know God is talking to me, telling me to get busy and do something, read a book, do a project, hug my child, and so on. I just need to listen to the voice inside me. It is so easy to get lost in the business of living that we forget to really live, to really listen, and then we are really lost.

When I was growing up, (Catholic) I always wondered why we prayed if God didn't answer us. No one seemed to be able to give me a good answer to that. It almost was like a wish factory to pray- I want this, or that. And God would say yes, no, or maybe. But that didn't really click with me. I talked to God as a child- I had an imaginary playmate, and s/he always made me feel calm and happy. I think back now, and realize that was God with me. I am trying to get that feeling back now as an adult.

Yes, Nirmala - well said.

There's nothing more amazing than when you look at the birds, trees, a cloud etc and suddenly have that awareness of the divine. I can't even explain that feeling!

Actually I like this concept a lot. There is no one and nothing that stands between and God and I. Except me and my preoccupations. Often, one is so lost in our own conversations and thoughts that we don't hear God's voice. Every part of God's wonderful creation talks but we do not listen. To listen to the birds chirping, to feel oneness with a flower, with the waves in the sea is to listen to a CWG Smile

Best of all to hear the tiny voice within is to hear God speak.

Reading CWG - Chapter 1 Introduction - God Never Shuts Up

Post by Akindra Fri Apr 03, 2009 2:20 pm

An introduction from the Guidebook on the study of the 7 main concepts of Chapter 1 in CWG Book 1.

God Never Shuts Up

I believe the charm and the wonder of CWG is that it contains so many mind-expanding, paradigm-shifting, belief-challenging statements, yet has found a way to place these statements before us ina a manner which is non-offensive, and even inviting.

The book opens, for instance, with what for some has long seemed a heresy; an announcement that God has never stopped talking to us.

As it happens, an enormous number of people believe God has stopped talking, and that He did so many, many years ago. These people believe that God hasn't said a word since. Not in Direct Revelation, at any rate. His full and final word, they say, is found in the Scriptures.

What Scriptures? Well, now that depends upon to whom one is speaking. Many say, the Bible. Others say, no, His word is found in the Hebrew Bible, Others say, no, His word is found in the Koran, the Torah, Mishna, Talmud, Bhagavadgita, Rig Veda, Brahmanas, Upanishads, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Puranas, Tantras, Tao-te Ching, Buddha-Dharma, Dhammapada, The Master of Huai-nan, Shih-chi, Pali Canon, the Book of Mormon etc etc

Well, the point is, many people believe that Direct Revelation - that is, God speaking directly to makind - has not occurred since the Holy Scriptures (with which they feel comfortable) were written.

And while few of those who cite these sources agree with each other theologically, many agree on one thing emphatically; their Word of God is THE Word of God; their way to paradise is THE way to paradise; their communication from Deity is THE communication from Deity.

By this measure, CWG would have to be heresy; would by definition be blasphemy. Some of the adherents of the Old Books may not be clear about which old book contains the Truth, but they are clear that no new book does.

Surpisingly, even some of the newer, more theologically liberal movements deny even the possibility that God could be delivering new truth to anyone today through direct communication, and warn against such latter-day revelations.

And so, at its very beginning (indeed, by its very title) CWG present a challenge, upsets the apple cart, turns most present-day theology on its ear. Yet, interestingly, few people seem to have minded; few who have read CWG seem to have any quarrel with the possibility, at least, that God has revealed Himself once more through the written word.

Indeed, I'll go further. An astonishing number of people have come forward to say that they, too, have experiences such communications. And so it turns out that my conversation with God may not be such an "uncommon dialogue" after all.

Let's explore this opening thought and see how it relates to you.

The first major concept in CWG is that God is communicating with us all of the time; has always been communicating with us; has never stopped communicating with us; and will use whatever tool is at hand to continue that communication, both now and even forever more.
